What is Venus doing to tackle the growing threat of AMR?
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a growing global health challenge where microorganisms become resistant to medications. They change or mutate over time and no longer respond to medicines used to kill them, making infections harder to treat. This leads to longer illness durations, higher medical costs, and increased mortality rates.
Venus Remedies is actively addressing AMR through several key initiatives to slow down its development:
AWAKE India
Venus is dedicated to spreading awareness about AMR, which is one of the most critical challenges in combating the growing threat of resistant infections. Through our AWAKE India campaign, we lead stringent campaigns and awareness strategies. This initiative focuses on educating the public and healthcare professionals about the risks of AMR and the importance of responsible antibiotic use.
Plea Charitable Trust
Our Plea Charitable Trust is dedicated to preserving the effectiveness of existing antibiotics through responsible use and stewardship. By promoting prudent use of antibiotics and preventing misuse, Plea aims to reduce mortality associated with AMR and ensure that these crucial medications remain effective.
Research and Development of ARBs
For over two decades, our research team at the Venus Medical Research Centre (VMRC) has been working on developing Antibiotic Resistance Breakers (ARBs). These ARBs enhance the efficacy of existing antibiotics against resistant strains. Our ongoing research has successfully provided effective AMR solutions to millions of people worldwide, contributing significantly to global health.
Education and Stewardship Programs
Since 2004, Venus Remedies has been involved in spreading awareness about antibiotic use and abuse. Every year we participate in the WAAW (World AMR Awareness Week) campaigns, organize health camps, educate healthcare professionals, and collaborate with global organizations, like AMRIA, to promote antibiotic stewardship and knowledge sharing.
We’ve also joined the India Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Hub (IAIH), a global partnership of government and non-government organizations committed to combating the growing threat of AMR. The partnership aims to accelerate the development of new antibiotics and other treatments for bacterial infections that are resistant to current treatments.
